A question about the production of a part. (2 replies)

Good day everyone. I am looking for people who can make parts on the machine, but the site turned out to be unintuitive for me. I still don't understand how to leave a production request.
You need to make a test piece from wood (walnut, birch, maple)
I do not know how much it will cost, so I cannot name the price for which I want to purchase it. I do not know how quickly this can be made, so I can not indicate the date when I need it. I live in Germany and do not know if anyone is available in this country.

Need milling a part with a size of 224x224x5
and I can not upload the image to the site, it says that the file does not match.
Screenschot
Can they tell me how much it will cost?

Manufacturing process that fits right in with garage scale manufacturing (no replies)

Hey everyone, I just want to invite anyone to have look at my project to try to produce a new and interesting manufacturing process that may really open doors for garage scale manufacturing, and just community scale manufacturing.

I think it would really enable a lot. It is a bit more complicated than I would like, but a process that allows us to make high quality parts with high complexity and variety would really open up a whole new world. You could make all kinds of replacement parts and high quality metal machine parts. We could do things like make our own generators or other highly complex equipment. Medical equipment will also be a killer app.

Here:[www.sensorica.co]

[docs.google.com]

Wheatboard and Lasers (no replies)

Looking for advice concerning the use of wheatboard-like materials (ECOboard, Kirai, strawboard, etc.) with large format CO2 laser cutting. The reps at the companies selling these various products seem quite ignorant about their properties and I cannot get any straight answers. Anyone on this forum have practical experience with these materials? I've seen examples of laser etching on them, but not cutting, though they claim properties common to MDF which can be laser cut. Now that the large format lasers have dropped in price recently in the US to about the same as the CNC routers, I have been weighing their relative virtues. Dealing with environmental illness, I'm interested in the lasers as a way to work with a very large diversity of materials while minimizing workshop noise, dust, and being better able to exhaust pollutants. But I'm very interested in the sustainability of these agro-waste alternatives to MDF, even if they aren't yet as readily available in the US.

Install a BMW Roundel Emblem (no replies)

Are ya'll talking about the main hood emblems? Come on--that is probably the easiest DIY project on the BMW. Changing windshield wipers takes longer than this fix. Small flat screwdriver, towel, pry old one out, pull out the old rubber "nuts" from behind the hoodliner (3 snaps) and then insert the new one. MAYBE 3 minutes of time total. Yesh, I just replaced my hood ornament on my 740 il and it took about 5 minutes. I used a credit card and flat screwdriver. Looks choice. You might notice the last post in this thread was in April of 2006. Don't post in old threads, look at the last post's date before you do. For the record, my tested safe method of emblem removal is the best and has yet to be mentioned here. A piece of plastic shipping strap can be fed under the emblem with a wiggle and then pull the ends of the strap with equal force on either side. The emblem comes right off with no paint or body damage I pryed mine off today with two small screwdrivers from EmblemZone.com wrapped in scotch tape and a credit card. It took a little effort but I didnt scratch the paint and the new Roundel looks great. I don't mind, I was just wondering abut this, and I saw it at the top of the forum. The original thread starter, may no longer need this, but it still helps a lot of people Everyone complains when the search button isn't used. When it is and an old thread comes up you tell him not to post. I give the guy props for taking the time to look it up before starting a new thread.

Edit: Nevermind. I just saw that the person who posted didn't add anything significant and just posted to an old ass thread. My bad. Prying the emblem with a screwdriver, no matter what precautions you take with a cloth, tape, or a credit card, is almost sure to scratch your finish. One wonders why someone would bother to post with that obvious (and wrong) method. If it were that easy, no one would be googling the problem. Wrapping the screwdriver with tape won't work because the emblem fits way too tightly to the hood. The screwdriver is already too thick to go under there, wrapping it with tape makes the problem even worse.

Getting the emblem off the hood is a tough problem and though I don't have a solution for you, I can tell you not to try to pry it out with a screwdriver. Some of the reasons that it's a tough problem are:
The emblem is countersunk, making it tough to get any tool in there. When working with a screwdriver you have to try and insert it at a steep angle to the surface, causing gouges.
The emblem seals watertight against the surface, that way no water gets under there and it doesn't mildew. That means there is no crack between the emblem and the surface into which you can insert a tool.
The bottom edge of the emblem does not admit a tool, it's designed to hug tightly to the surface and form a seal. So when working with any tool, screwdriver, credit card, dental floss, or nylon packing strap, it's tough to get under that emblem at all.
The emblem is stuck in there tightly, so even when you do get a tool under it, it's going to take a lot of force to start the emblem moving.
The emblem will flex when pried and just snap back into position, further frustrating any efforts.

The best method I've seen is to use a nylon packing strap that's a half inch or so wide. If you can work that under there and get it out the other side, you can use it as a strap to pull the emblem up. That would not gouge the finish. However, I can't see any way to get that packing strap even started. ken is it a bad thing that iv been feeding the inner troll lately?

Getting a project made (2 replies)

Hello All,
I’m looking for advice on a project I’d like to proceed with and would appreciate some guidance from members of the forum if possible. I make a small piece of computer furniture called the KwikPit, it’s a cockpit type set up that is used with flight simulation gaming.

I make the units by hand which is turning into an impossible task considering consistency and time which is where a CNC router would come in. just talking to the large manufacturers makes someone give up on doing a project if they want less than an n ( 100-500 or more) number of pieces. I’ve been a member for a while and figured this is a good place to start.

I have drawings of the unit with measurements but they are not CAD drawings. I assume the first thing to do is find a designer to produce a CAD file.

I’m assuming the next thing would be for a fabber to produce a prototype to see where things need to be adjusted. There’s probably many steps in between but that’s the general idea I assume.

Some general info is that it will made of colored laminated 5/8”particle board like the furniture you see in Walmart and other places. It will be assembled using the Titus 5 system which uses cams and dowels like the majority of the RTA stuff you see today.

I’m attaching a couple of pics of the unit for a general idea of what it looks like. I appreciate any guidance or advice from anyone on the forum that has a thought about what I’m attempting to do, I'm in Denver Colorado.
Thanks,
Greg
